A willingness to be still
I would say that there is a difference between a receptive sort of stillness and the "couch potato" kind:
Wisdom comes with the ability to be still. Just look and just listen. No more is needed. Being still, looking, and listening activates the non-conceptual intelligence within you. Let stillness direct your words and actions.
I'm so very glad you have the opportunity to make such a retreat. Is it Ignatian, by the way? (Eight days is one traditional time frame for Ignatian retreats which is why I ask.)
New policy: Anonymous posts must be signed or they will be deleted. Pick a name, any name (it could be Paperclip or Doorknob), but identify yourself in some way. Thank you.
You probably have heard the expression "Don't just do something, sit there."
ReplyDeleteI will be going on an eight day silent retreat in a couple of weeks, and am very much looking forward to becoming deeply still and quiet.
