A willingness to be still

I would say that there is a difference between a receptive sort of stillness and the "couch potato" kind:

Wisdom comes with the ability to be still. Just look and just listen. No more is needed. Being still, looking, and listening activates the non-conceptual intelligence within you. Let stillness direct your words and actions.

  1. You probably have heard the expression "Don't just do something, sit there."

I will be going on an eight day silent retreat in a couple of weeks, and am very much looking forward to becoming deeply still and quiet.

  2. I'm so very glad you have the opportunity to make such a retreat. Is it Ignatian, by the way? (Eight days is one traditional time frame for Ignatian retreats which is why I ask.)
