A willingness to be still
I would say that there is a difference between a receptive sort of stillness and the "couch potato" kind:

You probably have heard the expression "Don't just do something, sit there."
ReplyDeleteI will be going on an eight day silent retreat in a couple of weeks, and am very much looking forward to becoming deeply still and quiet.
I'm so very glad you have the opportunity to make such a retreat. Is it Ignatian, by the way? (Eight days is one traditional time frame for Ignatian retreats which is why I ask.)
