A stubborn refusal to look within pretty much guarantees that we will never make any substantial changes in ourselves even if we want to very much.The full and joyful acceptance of the worst in oneself may be the only sure way of transforming it.

Another reason for self acceptance
This week in ongoing class the topic was moral courage. Sometimes I think it is the task of looking clearly and honestly at oneself that requires the greatest moral courage of all:

This did not even occur to me during class. It certainly does take courage. Marilyn
ReplyDeleteA friend and I are discussing this very issue. His dark past has him in a quagmire of self-loathing, but what I try to remind him of is the fact he chooses to no longer live that way. And in such choosing, begins to right the wrongs.
