Today

Hmmm. Had you ever heard of "World Kindness Day"? I hadn't until I happened to notice something about it on the MSN homepage this morning. It's November 13. (I don't know why!)

Here's something about kindness for us to remember:

Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.

~Og Mandino

This would actually be a very interesting project to take on. Let me know if you're going to try it. I am!

  1. I, for one, would be interested in a report on how this is going for you. I guess I think accomplishing what Mandino is recommending would be akin to..or a consequence of...complete awakening. In that sense it is already something I "try" to do. With marginal success. And yet, Buddhism also teaches, in some sense, to quit trying to so hard. To "let go".
Approaching every person you meet today as though they would not be alive tomorrow...seems overwhelming to me.

  2. Well, I don't think this necessarily means to use our imagination in such a way as to be overwhelmed. I think, rather, that this is a somewhat dramatic way of reminding us to be ever mindful of impermanence.
