Henry Finlay (May 1, '95 - May 5, '09)

Henry Finlay

My wonderful, wonderful cat, Henry, died "the good death" peacefully in my arms around 12:30 PM today.

His kidneys had failed and he had stopped eating and drinking. It was time.

Henry was magnificent in every way - beautiful, possessed of great dignity, and more affectionate than any other cat who has ever shared my life. He specialized in both nose kisses and ear nuzzles! He was the "old man" of the family and never lost his "top kitty" status --- even after he got sick.

I am, of course, grief stricken - especially losing him so soon after my beloved Izzy.

But I am grateful and always will be. Grateful to have had the opportunity to give him a forever home when he needed one and even more grateful for all the emotional and spiritual support he has given me for thirteen years now.

Rest in peace my sweet boy. You are purring for the angels now.

Those of us who were fortunate enough to have met Henry will not forget how truly beautiful and dignified he was. He was a class unto himself!

May you be comforted at this time Ellie,

  5. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you got a little lift knowing we were meditating for you. We missed you, Ellie, of course, but, Marilyn, you lead a wonderful class!

My kitties, LZ and Queen Bee, are getting some extra love in honor of Henry.

  8. Thanks to all who left comments here. Thank you more than I can say. Yes (to Ann and Laura who knew Henry), he was both beautiful and truly in a class unto himself!

Thanks for leading class, Marilyn! And I know that you ALSO knew Henry and appreciated him.

Yes, Elizabeth. It does seem as if it's all rather a lot. I must confess that part of me keeps waiting for the next shoe to drop. But I take consolation in the principle of impermanence.

Leroy (now the "senior" animal of the family) seems to understand I need extra attention just now and is staying close. He's in my lap purring as I write.

    Love to you all!

  10. Thank you, David.

    Thank you so much.

Yes, I'm pretty strung out these days with all that's happened so the metta is hugely appreciated.

Mainly, I'm very, very grateful. Henry gave me much more than I ever gave him -- really. I'm so, so blessed that he chose to share his life with me.

So sorry to hear of the loss or your Henry. His picture is fabulous and I'm sure he was a wonderful part of your household. I'll give my Tiger an extra pat, brushing and playing with this evening in honor of Henry.

    Blessing to you, Ellie.
